Managing Director of Schools (Nurses Middle College)

Location: Remote with semi-regular travel to Providence, RI; Albany, NY; and Nashville, TN

NursesMC Overview

The Nurses Middle College (NursesMC) charter high school model was created in 2011 as a solution to the critical nursing shortage and to ensure a diverse nursing/healthcare workforce is prepared to improve health equity outcomes. The flagship school, located in Providence, RI has received national and international attention for its innovative design, impressive student achievement, and positive impact on the community. NursesMC students receive a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, participate in health care internships, obtain an entry level patient care workforce certificate, and earn up to 16 transferable college credits towards a nursing/health care post-secondary degree. The second NursesMC school launched in Albany, NY in fall 2023, and a third school is scheduled to open in Nashville, TN in fall 2025. NursesMC is a non-profit Charter Management Organization and its network schools are separate, 501c3 organizations with their own local Boards, working collaboratively and contractually with NursesMC to replicate the nursing middle college model with fidelity to the NursesMC’s mission and vision.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Managing Director (reporting into the NursesMC C-suite), to oversee school operations, academic excellence, and launch across the NursesMC charter network. This exceptional leader must be dynamic, entrepreneurial, accountable, and well-versed in the charter school landscape. The Managing Director of Schools will report to the NursesMC Chief Nurse Program Officer and work closely with other members of the NursesMC Charter Management Organization. The Managing Director will provide expertise to ensure that new NursesMC projects (including NursesMC – Nashville, launching fall 2025) launch successfully and support the existing NursesMC schools in Providence, RI and Albany, NY.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and Support School Executive Directors

  • Support and onboard school Executive Directors
  • Collaborate with Executive Directors to vet, hire, onboard, train, and support administrative, faculty, and staff positions within schools
  • Supervise Executive Directors to ensure successful planning and launch, ongoing operations, and continued excellence across NursesMC schools
  • Manage and coach Executive Directors to ensure strong progress towards goals and meeting of performance metrics

Launch and Ensure Ongoing Success of NursesMC Schools 

  • Track progress toward completion of school launch milestones including personnel, budget/financial, real estate, academic, and compliance related-goals; monitor ongoing outcomes and schools’ alignment to NursesMC mission
  • Ensure that each school implements the NuresMC model with fidelity while meeting all academic and financial benchmarks
  • Provide strategic oversight on student recruitment and marketing strategy to attract and retain a diverse student body aligned with the NursesMC core mission statement
  • Oversee enrollment management strategies to ensure each school achieves optimal student enrollment numbers needed to secure sufficient revenues
  • Ensure that every student, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to high-quality education
  • Liaise with school-level boards in support of student success

Strengthen Excellence across the NursesMC Network of Schools:

  • Hire and onboard network staff and support them in implementation of the NursesMC model and best practices across sites
  • Provide strategic support and insight into navigating charter school governance, regulations, and best practices
  • Build a replicable school model playbook codifying best practices across program design, core curriculum, and operations
  • Ensure that the NursesMC culture of providing education through the lens of health, grounded in the NursesMC pillars of nursing is maintained across all NursesMC schools

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in charter school network leadership, with a proven track record of managing multiple schools, teams, and/or organizations
  • Deep understanding of charter school governance, regulations, and best practices; experience in running charter schools and scaling charter school networks
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong entrepreneurial instincts (e.g., self-starter, results-oriented, creative)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategy, anticipate operational roadblocks, and implement timely solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments while managing multiple teams
  • Strong belief in mission of NursesMC and commitment to equity and serving diverse student populations

 

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this role is between $165,000-$180,000 per year, depending on professional experience. NursesMC is committed to providing a competitive benefits package and offers health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, as well as Health Reimbursement Account and Flexible Spending Account options to all full-time employees. NursesMC also offers a 403b plan with predetermined discretionary employer match on an annual basis and generous vacation/PTO.
