Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Purdue Polytechnic High Schools (PPHS)

Minimum Salary: $120,000

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial strategy and operations of PPHS. This pivotal role involves ensuring that financial decisions align with our mission of preparing scholars for success in college and beyond while fostering an equitable and inclusive environment. The CFO will work in close partnership with the CEO and the executive team to develop and implement strategies that support the organization’s growth and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage critical relationships with external financial partners, including banks, investment firms, auditors, and tax advisors, ensuring seamless financial operations and access to necessary resources.
  • Lead the organization’s budgeting, audit, accounting, treasury, financial reporting, risk management, compliance, and other financial activities.
  • Highly skilled in the strategic budgeting process, fiscal modeling, and long-term financial planning.
  • Oversee financial forecasting, performance monitoring, and capital expenditure programs, grant fiscal management performance and compliance.
  • Provide regular financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors, presenting key findings and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Advise the Board of Directors and leadership team in areas of market expansion, operational growth, and development strategies.
  • Provide financial counsel to the CEO and senior leadership team to align the budget with organizational goals.
  • Lead across the organization, influencing organizational strategy and operational priorities. Support the achievement of program goals and the culture of PPHS.
  • Perform budget analysis and maintain proper accounts controls, including operational budget, revolving accounts, and grants.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve the system.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including managing a team responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and procurement.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely payroll processing, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax and labor laws. Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits offerings.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including charter school funding requirements and reporting obligations.
  • Manage PPHS’s internal control structures, audits, and financial reporting processes.
  • Provide financial information to the Board in accordance with Board policy; attend board meetings.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders, including state and federal agencies, lenders, funders, and vendors.
  • Foster collaboration across departments to ensure organizational financial healthHire, develop, and oversee finance staff, maintain a culture of high performance and ethical behavior.
  • Partner with the CEO and the executive team to develop and implement a comprehensive financial strategy that supports PPHS’s mission and values.
  • Implement a performance management system that is equitable across team members, on a predictable timeline, and with transparent expectations.
  • Provide tools, training, and resources to enhance financial literacy and enable effective budget management.
  • Conduct workshops related to CFO functions to support ongoing learning within the organization.
  • Perform other duties as are consequential to the position and as reasonably requested by the CEO.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • CPA designation preferred; experience in nonprofit or educational finance preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressively challenging senior-level financial management experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Certification as a School Business Administrator is preferred.
