The National Liberty Museum’s signature educational outreach program, the Young Heroes Outreach Program is a yearlong educational initiative for students in 4th-8th grade that empowers them in the areas of leadership, civic engagement, social justice, and critical thinking through project-based learning. Students complete our original curriculum and then establish a Young Heroes Club in their school and engage in community action projects that foster long-lasting social change. We are seeking a Part-Time Outreach Educator who will support the Outreach Education team in developing, implementing and evaluating all program components.

Hours:
Term position that would go through the summer, with the possibility of full-time promotion
Part-time, hourly
About 20 hours flex per week
Weekends and evenings a couple of times a year
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary: Facilitation of Outreach programming:
• Assist Outreach staff in the continued development and implementation of Young Heroes Outreach Program curriculum and educational materials
• Assist in the development and facilitation of teacher Professional Development initiatives
• Assist in the daily facilitation of Outreach administration duties including marketing, correspondence with schools, school application process, field trips, and follow-up evaluations
• Support participating school liaisons with development and facilitation of all Young Heroes Clubs and Club activities & projects
• Develop content for program blog for teachers and students
• Assist Outreach staff with the development and facilitation of the Young Heroes Club year-end program at the NLM to include all YHC members, parents, school administrators and VIPs
Secondary: Education Department duties including:
• Lead occasional weekday tours for all school, community, and tour groups of all ages and backgrounds
• Provide coverage for occasional weekend and evening Museum events (Fundraisers, Awards programs, etc.)
Qualifications
• A Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required
• Teaching Certification would be a plus
• Experience working with students in a formal and/or informal educational setting
• Familiarity with PA state standards, Scope and Sequence and the Common Core preferred
• Familiarity and knowledge of the School District of Philadelphia a plus
• Have a basic understanding of civics/social justice oriented youth development practice
• The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced environment and handle challenges with poise
• The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and ability to work independently when needed
• Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines
• Exceptional written, email and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
• Proficiency in multimedia production software and graphic design is a plus but not required
