Finance Director of Finance
Job Description
First 8 Memphis is looking for an experienced Director of Finance to build and implement a financial system that results in the long-term sustainability and financial health of F8M. The person in this role will:
Finance (40%)
- Perform the financial administration, business planning and budgeting of a $15M+ budget
- Co-create budgets with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT
- Develop and implement a strong fiscal system (e.g., internal controls, fiscal policies and procedures) that complies with all required laws/policies and supports our growth goals
- Prepare financial reports, statements, forecasts, cash flow projections, budgets and other financial analysis at regular intervals
- Conduct analysis, provide insights and implement strategies to achieve F8M’s strategic goals and secure our long-term financial health
- Continuously monitor financial performance, compliance and opportunities for improvement
- Conduct Annual Fiscal training with operators
- Manage the organization’s bank accounts and investments, serving as the primary liaison with fiscal partners
- Maintain appropriate documentation, both electronic and hard copy files, in accordance with record retention requirements
- Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks
Accounting Management (15%)
- Provide direct oversight of the contracted accounting firm
- Manage, verify and submit vendor invoices for processing to accounting firm
- Review transactions for approval and flag concerns for the Executive Director
- Approve and sign vendor contracts
- Submit payments to operators and provide batch reports to accounting firm
Grant Management (20%)
- Manage F8M’s portfolio of grants to include related compliance activities, including grant reporting, expense reclassification, invoicing etc.
- Analyze grant financial performance to budget and share recommendations for corrective actions with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
- Develop grant budgets and modifications collaboratively with the SLT
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all grant and contract fiscal guidelines
Reporting & Communications (10%)
- Manage regular communications and reports for both internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure goals and targets are tracked and benchmarked
Senior Leadership (15%)
- Collaboratively create and advance organization level strategic plans and priorities with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
- Co-create content for the annual report, board newsletters and other org. level communications with the SLT
- Represent F8M at community and national functions
- Prepare for and present at Board of Directors, Board subcommittees, and Advisory Committees as assigned
- Build a high-performing team and actively attract, retain, and develop best-in-class staff
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Has a strong command of generally accepted accounting principles, nonprofit accounting standards, state and federal laws regarding nonprofit operations, budgeting, financial compliance, audit best practices and risk management for nonprofit organizations
- Is knowledgeable of accounting and reporting software

- Can travel approximately 10% of time around Shelby County and, potentially, statewide and nationally
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience in mid-to-senior level leadership to include people management
- 5+ years of experience in financial management
- Demonstrated experience in accounting and managing public and private grants
- Social impact, non-profit organization, government, and/or educational institution experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field
- Prefer, graduate degree in business administration, nonprofit management or related field

What We Offer: The salary for this role is $60,000, commensurate with experience.
