Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools (www.freedomprep.org) is a PK-12 charter school in Memphis, TN. Our mission is to prepare all students in grades K-12 to excel in college and in life. Freedom Preparatory Academy opened in August of 2009 with a class of 96 6th graders. We now serve over 2400 students in grades PreK-12. Our students have exceeded local and state averages in math and local averages in English language arts on the state exam.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The HR Business Partner Director will collaborate with the Director of Talent Recruitment and Chief Talent Officer on the human resources strategy across the charter network. Reporting to the Chief Talent Officer, they will serve as a valued thought partner on all issues related to human capital for the executive team and school leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of People and Systems

  • Manage two direct reports; ensure timely and effective administration of all employee benefits and recommend improvements to benefits packages
  • Oversee the payroll function (Paylocity) and look for ways to improve efficiency and reporting through Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
  • Develop and manage systems to gather feedback on employee satisfaction and engagement; based on the results, share feedback with senior leaders and modify retention strategies
  • Play a proactive role in resolving employee concerns, investigating employee issues, and developing positive employee relations and engagement
  • Deal directly with Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Short-Term Disability (STD), On the Job Inquiry (OJI) and other complex HR situations in the organization

Organizational Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Chief Talent Officer to align human capital strategy with growth targets
  • Facilitate professional development activities for staff across the organization
  • Play a key role in leading organizational culture initiatives that ensure a high-performing organization overall
  • Develop systems and processes that value and leverage skill and expertise across the organization to drive excellence in education, engagement, and retention

Performance Management and Compensation

  • Research and evaluate compensation levels across the organization and benchmark against similar organizations, collaborating with the Chief Talent Officer to develop a long-term compensation strategy for the organization that ensures compensation is externally competitive and internally consistent
  • Work with managers throughout the organization to help develop systems for goal setting and performance evaluation and ensure evaluations take place regularly and effectively

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum four years professional experience in Human Resources and Talent
  • SPHR or PHR certification; familiarity in HR systems such as a Nimble, Paylocity, cflow, and so on
  • HR Generalist background with experience in benefit planning cost containment, compensation, payroll, and HRIS
  • Management/leadership experience required with a track record of leadership, including the ability to encourage, motivate, manage conflict, team build, mentor, coach, set goals, prioritize and plan
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders and effectively communicate tough messages to diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to hire, develop, engage, and retain high-performing teams, particularly in HR, Talent, and Operations wing
  • Strong strategic thinking and organizational skills, catered to long-term planning and executing towards goals with high attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative and solves problems
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced, rapidly growing entrepreneurial organization; ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated commitment to the educational mission, vision, and goals of Freedom Prep
