Operations / Administration Manager of Operations

John Danner/Flourish Schools
 Nashville, Tennessee, United States

Job Description

Position Title: Manager of Operations
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer and Chief Academic Officer
Location: Nashville, TN
Employment Type: Full-Time, Hybrid Remote
Start Date: May, 2025

About Flourish

Flourish aims to build the classroom of the future.   We operate small private elementary schools where students engage in meaningful projects, aided by an AI coach for support.  We believe this will free teachers to spend less time on planning and grading, and more time building deep relationships with their students.  Most of us can remember one teacher growing up that changed our lives.  What if we had a teacher every year who was able to make that kind of connection and tap into our passions?  We hope that we can prove that using AI as a core assistant to teachers will allow their role to be more about their students.

By mirroring the way we work as adults, building projects with just-in-time learning from our Coach will lead to greater motivation and agency among students, because they will be required to not just learn new concepts but apply them in meaningful tasks and challenges.  Project-based learning is crucial for learning non-cognitive skills like agency, intentionality, resilience, communication and teamwork.  We believe these skills are going to be just as valuable as academic skills to navigate a world going through significant technological and social disruption.

Flourish founders John Danner and Adam Nadeau have been building schools for two decades.  They previously founded and grew Rocketship Public Schools to 25 schools in 5 states, serving 12,000 students annually.

Position Overview

As a young for-profit startup, most of our energy is going into creating a great learning environment for children.  Schools are complicated and highly regulated.  The Manager of Operations position is the sole non-academic position in our startup.  If you want a big responsibility that spans a large range of functions, and feel you can learn fast on the job, this is a unique opportunity.

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented superstar to support the opening of our pilot campus, and build systems and processes to scale our model in the coming years. This role is key in ensuring that both school opening and day-t0-day operations run smoothly, facilities are well designed and maintained, and staff and families receive timely and professional support.

The operations specialist is a hands-on, systems-building doer responsible for designing and maintaining the operational foundation of our school and network.  You will work across technology, product, HR, facilities, and administrative systems to ensure our schools run efficiently and all stakeholders have an incredible day-to-day experience.
