Job Description

Hope Academy is a tuition-free, public charter high school that provides a safe, sober and challenging academic experience for Indy-area teens. As a Simon Youth Academy and IPS Innovation school, Hope Academy offers its students a truly unique and individualized high school experience.    

We are centrally located just minutes from downtown near the campus of the University of Indianapolis with convenient access via Indy Go’s Red Line.  

Hope Academy is one of only nine recovery high schools in the United States accredited by the Association of Recovery High Schools. Additionally, Hope Academy has partnered with the Simon Youth Foundation and IPS to bridge a gap to serve more students in the Indianapolis area. Students who receive ongoing support for substance use issues have higher graduation rates, lower absentee rates and are more likely to abstain from using substances. 

Parents and loved ones are part of the Hope Academy experience for all our students. They will play an integral role in their students’ journey of recovery and will receive the same guidance, support and encouragement from our staff, while connecting with other parents and our community. 

Position Summary
The Mathematics teacher role is to support students as they learn mathematics and earn credits toward high school graduation. Class sizes are never more than 15 students and typically have between 7-10 students, allowing the teacher to provide individual attention and support.  The teacher will teach 6 class periods including Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2.  The teacher will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to students at Hope Academy.  

Essential Job Functions 

  • Plan, carryout, evaluate and supervise instructional lessons and activities in the areas of science education for students in a recovery high school setting. 
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments. 
  • Provide appropriate feedback on student work 
  • Participate in professional development activities. 
  • Utilize student assessments and evaluations to inform teaching practices. 
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. 
  • Establish an invitational, supportive and engaging classroom environment, promoting high academic standards and leadership. 
  • Actively encourage and promote parent and community engagement. 
  • Maintain current records for all students. 
  • Collaborate with all staff. 
  • Communicate with students, parents, and other staff concerning student academic progress, attendance and behavior. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Required 

  • A Bachelors degree  
  • Must hold valid Indiana State Teacher’s License in 9-12 science or must be eligible to receive emergency permit. 
  • Experience working with adolescents preferred. 
  •  Ability to clear required background check .
