About Us

Our nation’s education system is leaving millions of students—including an overwhelming number of students of color and low-income students—unprepared for college, career, and life. While research shows that classroom teachers are the single most important in-school factor in improving student achievement, their diverse voices are consistently left out of education policy decisions. For far too long, teachers have been treated as subjects of change rather than as agents of change.

Founded by public school teachers, Educators for Excellence is a growing movement of 27,000 educators, united around a common set of values and principles for improving student learning and elevating the teaching profession. We work together to identify issues that impact our schools, create solutions to these challenges, and advocate for policies and programs that give all students access to a quality education.

What We Do

Through our chapters in communities across the country, we provide opportunities for teachers to stay informed, expand their leadership, connect with colleagues and decision-makers, and advocate for change.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Training Manager on the National Programs Team, the Organizing Associate will bring ferocity, joy, real talk, moral courage and deep humanity to the work of supporting our Organizers in the field. Specifically, the Organizing Associate will: 1) Support and coach Organizers to be responsive, bold, relational, and goal-hungry in their organizing work, 2) develop and roll out organizing resources to support this work, and 3) help to plan, prepare, and deliver organizing focused workshops and trainings. The role will include substantial travel to E4E chapters, shadowing Organizers and providing feedback and guidance, creating content (presentations, worksheets, planning templates, agendas) to support chapters, devising surveys of staff needs, hosting workshops and trainings in person and online and, for major training events, helping plan and execute training content and logistics (space, food, travel, supplies).

You will:

Coach staff and provide feedback:

  • Identify additional national and chapter-level supports for Organizers

Create content:

  • Create high quality, clear and inspiring materials (presentations, worksheets, how-to guides, templates) to aid chapter campaigns and initiatives
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to enlist the right staff members and others to participate in the creation and delivery of materials when appropriate
  • Develop surveys to solicit feedback and expectations around trainings and other programs

Execute events:

  • Along with other E4E national staff, help plan and execute the content and logistical aspects of national E4E training and professional development events
  • Create materials and systems to support E4E in the logistical needs for such events

Support and conduct workshops and trainings:

  • Conduct occasional online and in-person workshops and trainings for staff and members to build skills and foster leadership development
  • Develop staff members and volunteers across departments to be excellent facilitators by involving them in the training creation and implementation process, providing feedback, and by establishing training practice as a norm

You have:

Required:

  • Experience organizing on or with political, electoral and/or advocacy campaigns/organizations
  • One of the following experiences: at least one year as a Pre-K-12 classroom teacher; some form of teaching, school-based professional experience, student-based professional experience or previous work with educational non-profits
  • The ability to travel often to other chapter locations

Preferred

  • Significant experience training and facilitating others, ideally in a political organizing or public education context
  • Proven ability to produce high quality, inspirational and engaging materials and training/workshop agendas
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop others
  • Adept with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, including stylistic and formatting abilities
  • Highly organized, and a strong communicator
  • Joy, compassion, tenacity, grit and the ability to take initiative and thrive in a fast-paced and unstructured environment

Moreover, all E4E staff must demonstrate our Core Values:

  • Respect and Professionalism: We act with personal responsibility, respect, and commitment to high quality work, to our organization and to each other
  • Solutions Orientation: We consistently approach even the most complex challenges with positivity, proactive solutions, and the assumption of best intentions
  • Growth Mindset: We intentionally create opportunities to develop ourselves and others in order to learn and continuously improve
  • Dynamic Leadership: We courageously take ownership, empower others, set bold visions, think strategically, and adapt to change
  • Diversity and Inclusiveness: Educational inequity is linked to race, power, and privilege, and so we take action to shift this paradigm by reflecting on our own identities, creating an inclusive and diverse community, and leveraging our differences as strengths
