Teacher Virtual Book Club Teacher
Job Description
Role:
Virtua Book Clubs is a series of online book clubs for students grades K-12. Students meet online via group video conference with a teacher every week. In this live book club, they explore the big ideas contained within great works of literature. Students build relationships with their peers, test their ideas and understandings, voice their opinions, and expand their view of the world while reflecting on such classic works as The Outsiders and Animal Farm.
Each Book Club will read three books this academic year during the course of approximately three months each. Kindergarten and first grade students may work on a different schedule, enjoying live online storytelling and read-alouds.
As a Virtua Book Clubs teacher, your primary mission will be to foster fascinating conversations and deep thinking about literature. You’ll do so by planning and delivering creative, rigorous mini-lessons, discussions, and debates, developing fun and engaging extension assignments and activities, and reflecting on/revising your work with the help of other Book Clubs teachers.
Your second mission with Virtua will be to help us tell our story. That means being one of the faces of Virtua Book Clubs on social media. You’ll share your name and image as a brand ambassador in our public relations and marketing campaigns as well as your social media networks. You will help us explain that Virtua Book Clubs isn’t just another website – it’s real, live, awesome teachers like you!
Requirements
- You’re a certified educator with experience teaching literature to students in grades K-12
- You’re a dynamic presence on streaming video and can drive an exciting discussion about a great work of literature
- You’re proud to share your personal brand, including your name and image, on public social media and through Virtua’s media coverage in order to tell our story
- You’re enthusiastic about planning lessons in collaboration with your colleagues
- You’re a thorough and clear lesson planner, and can capture an instructional plan in a comprehensive lesson plan format that includes key questions, instructional timing, and assessment criteria
- You’re proficient with videoconferencing technology such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, or WebEx
If you bring the above plus an enthusiasm for Virtua’s platform and mission, we’d love to hear from you!
