Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) Curriculum Coordinator

Summary:  Under the direction of the Superintendent is responsible for the coordination of the district curriculum and the coordination of staff development.

Salary Schedule:   Certified salary schedule with additional 23 day stipend (Aug. 1 – June 15).  Starting $41,350 depending on education and experience.

Education and/or Experience:  Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificate, Licenses/Registrations:  Colorado Teaching or Administrator License

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:   Other duties may be assigned.

1. Reports regularly to the Superintendent and provides him/her with oral reports and / or written summaries regarding the status of curriculum and instruction.
2. Chairs and assists the Superintendent in a systemic review and comprehensive assessment of curriculum and instructional programs.
3. Assists in the development of Common / Formative Assessments that align with curriculum adoption, revision and updates.
4. Works with the individual curriculum committees to assist them in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of PK – 12 curriculum.
5. Coordinates compliance with federal, state, and CDE content standards and legislated mandates.
6. Assists the Executive Director of Finance in the development of budgets for curriculum development and  evaluation, curricular resource purchases and staff training.
7. Works individually and collectively with staff to ensure that they are properly trained and know how to use district curriculum resources
8. Provides oversight of special projects as they relate to curricula and instruction.
9. Works with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level, departmental and collaboration meetings.
10. Provides staff leadership to ensure understanding of and promote the educational objectives of the district, and plans and administers relative district programs.
11. Directs creation of and edits for publication all curriculum guides and materials.
12. Has Knowledge in the READ Act and Literacy Program.
13. Serves as instructional leader, setting the tone and culture of the instructional staff.
14. Displays a high level of understanding of the conditions that promote quality teaching and learning, and articulates an informed and cohesive philosophy of learning and teaching.
15. Understands and clearly articulates the links between curriculum, assessment and pedagogy and demonstrates skills to promote, identify and evaluate the quality of school practice.
16. Encourages, develops and supports collaborative groups; actively participates in and contributes to teaching and learning teams in and between schools.
17. Implements high leverage strategies that align curriculum, teaching and learning, assessments and reporting.
18. Understands how best to develop systems to support students learning, development and behavior.
19. Demonstrates knowledge of and provides direction and support for the accomplishment of instructional, curricular, and program requirements.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to run; stoop and kneel.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.  The employee must occasionally push items of 75lbs. or more, such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture.  Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
