Position Title: Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
Exempt
Site: Montrose High School
Direct Supervisor: Building Principal
Salary Schedule:  Assistant Principal HS (range $78,591 – $98,162 based on the 22/23 salary schedules, experience and education)
Work Calendar: Assistant Principal HS: 200 Day

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of the athletic and activity policies, regulations, guidelines and procedures related to the high school athletic program to ensure up-to-date standards for athletic programs, coaches, student and parents are met.
  • Oversee the compliance with all required qualifications and processes for newly hired coaches and the completion of any necessary paperwork, i.e. fingerprint clearance, CPR/First Aid certification, CHSAA requirements etc.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection and dismissals of head coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer coaches.
  • Conducts performance evaluations of all head coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer coaches.
  • Supervision and evaluation of the financial and athletic department secretaries.
  • Determine student athletic eligibility in conjunction with District Policy.
  • Coordinates and supervises scheduling and preparation of athletic events and facilities for all athletic programs, including practices, home and away contests, and playoff contests, in accordance with District, league, and CHSAA policy.
  • Coordinates and supervises scheduling of buses and/or school vans for athletic teams and activities.
  • Oversees all athletic equipment and facilities used by athletic programs.
  • Secure officials and referees for all home athletic events.
  • Develops, prepares, and administers the athletic budget.
  • Works with athletic coaches and activity sponsors to monitor each program’s budget, including fundraising.
  • Selects or assists in the selection of materials, equipment, and supplies used by athletic teams/programs.
  • Acts as the school/district administrative representative in athletic activities.
  • Supervises athletic and activity events.
  • Arranges and participates, as needed, in joint conferences with parents/ teachers/ administrators, students and coaches.
  • Teaches, models, enforces, advocates for, and supervises appropriate behavior, boundaries, character traits and educational values to all.
  • Works collaboratively with staff, including teachers, administrators, coaches, and classified staff, on matters pertaining to athletics.
  • Maintains good communication, public relations, and cooperative relationships with coaches, staff, school administration, students, parents, officials, and media.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience
Education:

  • Minimum of Master’s Degree in  Educational Administration  from  an  accredited  institution

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience at the secondary level
  • Prior experience as a coach/head coach at the high school level

Certification Requirement:

  • Possession of Principal’s licensure from the Colorado Department of Education

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:

  • MCSD Policy and Procedures involving High School Sports
  • Timelines and guideline requirements set by CHSAA
  • Microsoft Office computer applications, including Word, Excel, Google and Outlook

Ability to:

  • Work with adolescents, parents, coaches, officials, administrators and community members
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Create effective presentations

 Additional requirements include:

  • Holding a valid CPR/First Aid Card
  • Concussion Certified
  • Completing Small Bus Training
  • CBI/FBI background clearance and a clean driving record

Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.  

  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Persons performing service in this position classification may exert 5 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
  • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.
  • Reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support students (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three-person lift).
  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
  • Position may require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
