Summary of Position:
Olathe Middle/High School is looking for an energetic and dynamic individual to lead our middle and high school Pirate athletic and activities programs, to continued excellence as we compete at a high-level in Western Slope athletics and activities conferences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Policy and Compliance
- Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of athletic and activity policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures related to the high school athletic program to ensure up-to-date standards are met.
- Oversee the compliance with all required qualifications and processes for newly hired coaches and the completion of any necessary paperwork, i.e., fingerprint clearance, CPR/First Aid certification, CHSAA requirements, etc.
- Determine student athletic eligibility in conjunction with District Policy for both middle and high school students.
- Responsible for the maintenance and safety of athletic facilities and prepares work orders and accident reports.
- Acts as the school/district administrative representative in athletic activities.
- Manages a variety of school administrative functions (e.g., student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district, and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.
Supervision and Evaluation
- Supervise activities to include weeknights and weekends.
- Conduct performance evaluations of all head coaches, assistant coaches, and volunteer coaches.
- Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that learning standards are achieved, and growth occurs.
- Supervise athletic and activity events.
Recruitment and Personnel Management
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and dismissals of head coaches, assistant coaches, and volunteer coaches.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and dismissals of all extra-curricular clubs and activities sponsors.
- Work with coaches to ensure all necessary paperwork is submitted and completed.
Coordination and Scheduling
- Coordinate and supervise scheduling and preparation of athletic events and facilities for all athletic programs, including practices, home and away contests, and playoff contests, in accordance with District, league, and CHSAA policy.
- Coordinate and supervise scheduling of buses and/or school vans for athletic teams and activities.
- Oversee the master facilities calendar for all stakeholders and events.
- Secure officials and referees for all home athletic events.
- Secure event workers for all home athletic events.
Financial Management
- Oversee the collection of athletic fees, physical forms, and parent permission forms.
- Develop, prepare, and administer the athletic budget.
- Work with athletic coaches and activity sponsors to monitor each program’s budget, including fundraising.
- Select or assist in the selection of materials, equipment, and supplies used by athletic teams/programs.
Administrative and Collaborative Roles
- Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school and assume leadership of the school in the absence of the principal as necessary.
- Promote the school athletic program and assist coaches with athletic recognition activities.
- Arrange and participate, as needed, in joint conferences with parents/teachers/administrators, students, and coaches.
- Teach, model, enforce, advocate for, and supervise appropriate behavior, boundaries, character traits, and educational values to all.
- Work collaboratively with staff, including teachers, administrators, coaches, and classified staff, on matters pertaining to athletics and extracurricular activities.
- Represent the building at out-of-building committee meetings for district athletic activities, high school assistant principals, and other committees as assigned.
- Maintain good communication, public relations, and cooperative relationships with coaches, staff, school administration, students, parents, officials, and media.
- Transport teams and other school groups, when needed, with an activity bus.
- Work with school activity sponsors to ensure facilities, transportation, communication, and all pertinent resources are available for school activities.
Student Interaction and Behavior Management
- Intervene in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.
- Recruit and raise numbers of students at all levels in extra-curricular programs.
Miscellaneous
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Education:
- Minimum of Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from an accredited institution
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience at the secondary level
- Prior experience as a coach/head coach at the high school level
- Supervision and managerial experience – preferred
Certification Requirement:
- Valid Principal’s licensure from the Colorado Department of Education
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- MCSD Policy and Procedures involving Middle and High School Sports
- Timelines and guideline requirements set by CHSAA
- Microsoft Office computer applications, including Word, Excel, Google and Outlook

Additional requirements include:
- Holding a valid CPR/First Aid Card
- Concussion Certified
- Completing Small Bus Training, including CDL certification for the 24 passenger bus
- CBI/FBI background clearance and a clean driving record
- Travel between sites
Physical Requirements:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
- Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Persons performing service in this position classification may exert 5 to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
- Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.
- Reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support students (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three-person lift).
- Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
- Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
