ELIZABETH SCHOOL DISTRICT ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
The Elizabeth School District in Elizabeth, Colorado, is seeking an experienced, dynamic and collaborative school district administrator to assume senior-level administrative responsibilities over a combination of educational and operational functions under the direction of the superintendent. The position will focus on student success, with significant supervisory, planning and fiscal responsibilities bridging student learning and school facilities. This is a year-round position based on a 260-day contract.
Elizabeth Schools is a growing rural district comprising a high school, a middle school, two PreK-5 elementary schools, and a K-8 charter school with approximately 2,500 students districtwide. Our community is growing, and our school programs and services are expanding.
ANNUAL SALARY RANGE
$125, 000 – $140,000 DOE

POSITION SUMMARY
The preferred candidate will possess strong skills and capabilities to provide district level leadership bringing together two related and overlapping functions – education and facilities. The position will be assigned overall responsibility to include but not be limited to the following:
EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The assistant superintendent will have leadership responsibilities for student success across a range of areas, including academics, athletics, performing arts and other student activities, social and emotional skill development, and the district’s graduate competencies. The position supervises principals and the special services director. Specific areas of educational leadership and support include K-12 curriculum alignment, standards implementation, instructional practices and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), state and local assessments, professional development, preschool programs, career-connected and work-based learning programs, federal programs, other grant programs, teacher mentoring and induction, student expulsions, and partnerships with outside agencies.
The position oversees Special Services which includes special education, gifted and talented programs, support for English language learners, the district nurse, 504 plans, and support for homeless and foster-care students. The district is the special education Administrative Unit responsible for ensuring that the requirements of special-education laws, regulations and rules are met in the district’s charter school.
FACILITIES RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to educational leadership, the assistant superintendent will have day-to-day and long-range school facilities responsibilities to include buildings/grounds and custodial services, facilities master planning and maintenance, building upgrades and capital improvements, applying for and overseeing BEST and other facilities grants, facilities-use policies and operations, bond programs, and other duties related to school and district facilities.
The assistant superintendent will partner with the technology and safety directors regarding infrastructure maintenance and improvements related to these areas. The position supervises the maintenance, operations and facilities coordinator.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The preferred candidate for this position will possess a master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible educational leadership experience, ideally as the principal of a medium- to large-sized secondary school, superintendent of a rural district, or in a district-level position with significant supervisory and budget responsibility. The successful applicant will also have strong project management and planning skills, the ability to learn and lead simultaneously, and excellent relationship and communications skills.
