SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

The Chief of Curriculum is a critical member of the Executive Leadership Team, providing essential leadership in partnership with the Superintendent and his/her Executive Leadership Team to increase student achievement and expand learning opportunities for all students in D11. This includes accountability for the quality of curriculum, content knowledge, program implementation and oversight, and the processes for introducing new courses and classes, aligned with local and state regulations.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief of Curriculum leads the district’s continuous improvement of standards-aligned curriculum, overseeing resources and championing research-based practices while collaborating closely with the Chief of Instruction and Chief of Student Experience and Success. This leader ensures teachers possess the necessary content knowledge through targeted professional learning, manages curricular programs (including specialized programs), and maintains a comprehensive resource catalog. The Chief actively contributes to district and school improvement planning, partnering with other leaders to develop and implement targeted plans and using data analysis to inform decisions and achieve Board/Superintendent targets. Resource management is crucial, including equipping the curriculum team, overseeing material procurement, and strategically allocating resources. This role also ensures compliance and communicates progress and challenges to leadership and the board, incorporating feedback from all stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate routinely with the Chief of Instruction and Chief of Student Experience and Success to ensure aligned, comprehensive curricular supports, incorporating feedback from schools and departments to create a K-12 comprehensive strategic implementation plan for content area curriculum.
  • Serve as a key partner with central and school resources to develop and implement student-focused curricular priorities, manage district-supported curricular programs, and coordinate the adoption, cataloging, budgeting, and evaluation of all related instructional materials.
  • Refine curriculum development and implementation structures to ensure effective content delivery and student learning, leading the research, development, implementation, and continual improvement efforts of curricula aligned to Colorado Academic Standards.
  • Monitor and develop curricular implementation metrics to drive implementation and foster data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop comprehensive implementation timelines, professional learning, and benchmarks for all curricular adoptions.
  • Develop nimble response and resource deployment structures to address student, educator, and school specific needs.
  • Directly support school-based curriculum implementation aligned to district and school improvement plans and convene district committees for study, review, and curriculum adoption as defined in Board Policy.
  • Develop and manage the academic budget, ensuring efficient resource use and adherence to fiscal policies supporting curriculum development and implementation, monitoring expenses, and allocating resources.
  • Develop systems to effectively communicate within and across district departments and with external stakeholders, and participate on the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Compile and analyze data to evaluate district curricular effectiveness, develop programs, and ensure compliance, interpreting and communicating federal, state, and District law, policy, or procedure related to instruction, curriculum, educational materials, and required school procedures.
  • Interpret, implement needed measures, and communicate relevant federal, state, and district laws, policies, and procedures related to curriculum, and ensure that all staff within the department are working cohesively to track, implement, and communicate key instructional programs.
  • Oversee, plan, and guide team initiatives to ensure the successful implementation and impact of academic programs, attaining district objectives.

Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

  • Knowledge of educational pedagogy as applied to the development and implementation of elementary and secondary curricular programs
  • Ability to plan and direct instruction program development and implementation for the District
  • Ability to lead the work of teams, committees, and work groups
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Knowledge of educational administration as applied to the development and implementation of educational program such as curriculum, instruction, assessment, evaluation and technology for the District
  • Knowledge of Colorado laws, rules and regulations governing instructional program development and implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree (required)

Master’s Degree (required) in related field (Curriculum and Instruction, educational research or educational administration)

Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in K-12 public education,with at least 3 years in school based or central department leadership roles.

Demonstrated development of curriculum and instructional programs and teaching

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work is performed in a typical office environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity, and is performed in office surroundings.  Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs; bend; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer keyboards.  The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.

SALARY RANGE
From: $140,000 to $170,000/year

Per approval by the Board of Education: All Executive Professional employees shall be allocated $1500 annually towards a Professional Development Fund (PDF). Amount allocated will be prorated based upon date and length of hire. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Executive Professional Meet and Confer Handbook – ARTICLE 8. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND.

Mileage:

Per annual approval by the Board of Education: Employees shall be reimbursed at the rate established by the Board when a privately owned automobile is required to be used in the performance of official duty. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Certified Teachers CSEA Master Agreement – Article 10.6 TEACHING CONDITIONS/ASSIGNMENTS and/or the Educational Support Professional Meet and Confer Handbook – 17.4 MILEAGE ALLOWANCE.
