College Track students graduate from college at a rate that is more than double the national average for low-income and first-generation students. Six months out of college, 79% of College Track alumni are employed. For those 30 and over, 92% report earnings greater than their parents with wages on par with the national average. By helping our students maximize the value of their four-year college degree, which includes minimizing student loan debt, securing internships, and limiting the need to work while in college–we prepare them to succeed in the 21st century economy.

Who are we looking for?

College Track Aurora is searching for a motivated, committed, and creative leader who steadfastly believes that all students are born with the potential to graduate from college. The Writing Coach will provide individual writing support to students in their journey to college. The writing coach will provide guidance at any stage of the writing process related to college access, whether it be the personal statement, supplemental essays, scholarship essays, and short answer application prompts.  This is a part-time position working 10-12 hours per week. College Track’s business hours are 11am-7:30pm Monday-Friday. Programming hours (when students are present) are 4pm – 7:00pm, Monday-Friday. Qualifications

First and foremost, the Writing Coach must embrace College Track’s vision of transforming low-income communities into places where college readiness and college graduation are the norms. Additionally, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Able to commit to working 10-12 hours per week for a minimum of one full academic year with flexible availability that includes programming hours of 2pm-7pm Monday-Friday with occasional Saturdays. 
  • Experience working with a diverse population of students in a relevant program area (e.g. tutoring or teaching, college advising, or youth development)
  • Skilled at relationship building with students 
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with students and keep them motivated and productive
  • Goal-oriented and strong commitment to meeting goals; dedication to helping students achieve their goal of college access
  • Strong written & verbal communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset 
  • High level of self-awareness, humility, and emotional intelligence 
  • Cleared background check and TB test before start date

Responsibilities

  • Work approximately 10-12 hours per week, primarily between 2:00 PM-7:30 PM Mondays-Fridays.  
  • Support College Access Director with one-on-one check-in meetings with juniors and seniors related to college essay writing and any writing related to college access 
  • Specifically for the Fall Semester:
    • Support seniors with completing a financial version of their personal statement
    • Assist seniors with school-specific supplemental essays
    • Help students develop strong scholarship essays
  • Specifically for the Spring Semester:
    • Meet with juniors to discuss ideas for the common app main essay
    • Support any students with essay writing for college summer programs  
  • Specifically for the Summer time:
    • Co-lead a six day Personal Statement Institute end of May/ early June 2022 


Compensation

This position is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and begins at $17.40 per hour.
