Instructor: Construction Design
Position Begin: Fall 2021
Class Schedule: 1:00 pm-3:30 pm Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, following RFSD schedule
Essential Functions and Objectives:
Provide training to students with classroom instruction, project-based learning, and hands-on skills that would prepare students to be college and career ready in the fields of safe tool and equipment use, structural design, blueprint reading, construction, building trades, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, welding, and introduction to heavy equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines and/or state and local requirements.
- Teach NCCER Core curriculum, facilitates OSHA 10 Construction curriculum.
- Presents subject matter using various teaching methods and technology to adapt to varied learning styles.
- Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and administers and evaluates tests and assignments.
- Monitor students’ academic progress including, but not limited to progress/marking period grades, attendance, hands-on performance skills.
- Supports student achievement and career planning.
- Maintain discipline and safety in the classroom and work sites.
- Communicate with parents, home school counselors, and others involved in the education of the student.
- Selects and requisitions/purchases instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
- Maintains and oversees the use of any lab equipment.
- Work with industry partners and mentors
- Keep current with changes and developments in the construction industries through networking, conferences or professional growth activities.
- Maintains an advisory committee and serves as an advisor to applicable student organizations.
- Other responsibilities as determined by the Academy Director.
Skill Requirements:
- 4+ years teaching and/or industry experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effectively handles multiple demands and competing deadlines.
- Ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Broad knowledge of techniques and practices used in related industries.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Credential Requirements:
- Journeyman or equivalent in a construction trade
