JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION District 11 utilizes a data lake integrated with multiple internal and external databases to provide actionable insights that drive decision-making and improve student success. This position will play a crucial role in leveraging data to enhance student success and operational efficiency. The Data Scientist will focus on utilizing our data lake and developing machine learning and predictive models to support data-driven decision-making and improve student academic success. This individual will collaborate with a diverse team and multiple departments across the district that are responsible for data management and analysis, to create innovative machine learning and predictive models to support teaching and learning efforts in the district. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Access and utilize multiple data sources in the districts data lake for storing and managing data
  • Develop and implement machine learning models to predict student performance utilizing multiple, longitudinal data sources
  • Create predictive models to support strategies and improve student outcomes
  • Collaborate with educators and administrators to translate data insights into actionable strategies
  • Use data visualization tools to present complex data in an accessible and understandable manner
  • Participate in cross-functional projects to enhance data-driven decision-making processes
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in data analysis, machine learning, and education technology
  • Provides advanced problem solving and troubleshooting across several student information systems
  • Maintain detailed documentation on processes, and track work progress using district provided software
  • Provides full analysis, development, testing, and production implementation of projects
  • Responsible for the timely delivery of critical data to the Colorado Department of Education on a regular and reoccurring basis
  • Provides careful testing of automated solutions as required

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of data science and predictive modeling processes
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex data sets and identify patterns and trends
  • Project Management: Capable of managing multiple projects and tasks efficiently, ensuring timely delivery
  • Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive in identifying and resolving data-related issues
  • Collaboration: Effective in working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to achieve common goals
  • Adaptability: Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience analyzing data, preferably in an educational setting
  • Strong proficiency with data warehousing solutions (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Redshift, etc.) with familiarity with SQL
  • Knowledge of machine learning or deep learning tools in programming languages such as Python or R
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Customer service-orientation; ability to be responsive to Director’s requests quickly and efficiently, utilizing good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability in and commitment to learning and the continual improvement of services
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other support and technical staff
  • Knowledge of data security and compliance best practices
  • Ability to prioritize; good organizational and time management skills: detail orientation
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in the education sector or working with educational data
  • Certifications in Snowflake or related tools
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Matplotlib
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reports directly to the Director of Data Science Collaborates with other divisions and departments to support technological needs and initiatives across the district. WORKING CONDITIONS The work is performed in a typical office environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for extended periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. Work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing. FLSA STATUS Exempt WORK YEAR 260 Days
SALARY RANGE
From: $89,788 to $107,305/year 260 day/year 1.0 FTE D11 Salary Grade P08

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
PDF: Per approval by the Board of Education: All Executive Professional employees shall be allocated $1500 annually towards a Professional Development Fund (PDF). Amount allocated will be prorated based upon date and length of hire. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Executive Professional Meet and Confer Handbook - ARTICLE 8. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND. Mileage: Per annual approval by the Board of Education: Employees shall be reimbursed at the rate established by the Board when a privately owned automobile is required to be used in the performance of official duty. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Certified Teachers CSEA Master Agreement – Article 10.6 TEACHING CONDITIONS/ASSIGNMENTS and/or the Educational Support Professional Meet and Confer Handbook - 17.4 MILEAGE ALLOWANCE.
