SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Serves as a strategic instructional leader across a K–12 system, being responsible for 13–15 schools (organized by regional networks). This role is responsible for driving the implementation, alignment, and continuous improvement of high-impact instructional practices, with a strong emphasis on cultivating student agency, engagement, and deeper learning in every classroom.
In addition to school-based instructional leadership, the Director dedicates approximately 40% of their time to advancing districtwide strategic initiatives. These include leading projects aligned to key district priorities such as instructional coaching, peak learning experiences, personalized learning pathways, and the integration of instructional technology to enhance teaching and empower learners.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Champion high-quality, student-centered instruction and curriculum alignment across K–12, ensuring every learner experiences meaningful, relevant, and empowering learning opportunities.
- Align network-wide resources to support instructional practices that foster student agency and ownership of learning.
- Collaborate with area superintendents, principals, instructional coaches, and educators to realize the district’s academic vision
- Provide leadership for high-quality instruction and curriculum alignment K–12.
- Support schools, coaches, and teachers with data-driven instruction and assessment analysis.
- Guide and support school-based professional development planning aligned with district instructional goals.
- Conduct instructional rounds, classroom walkthroughs, and coaching feedback cycles.
- Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment with MTSS, Special Education, CLDE and Gifted Education frameworks.
- Lead strategic district initiatives (40% of role), such as:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Deep understanding of K–12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Knowledge of data analysis and interpretation to support student outcomes
- Strategic planning and initiative execution
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence across teams and roles

- Knowledge of adult learning theory, systems thinking, and change management
- Strong facilitation and communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
- Valid administrative license or ability to obtain
- Five (5) years teaching experience
- Three (3) years instructional leadership experience (e.g., principal, coach, curriculum lead)
- Preferred experience managing district-wide instructional initiatives
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Chief of Instruction
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily district office-based; regular travel to school sites
- Requires flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with dynamic priorities
- Full-time position with extended hours as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards.

Mileage:
Per annual approval by the Board of Education: Employees shall be reimbursed at the rate established by the Board when a privately owned automobile is required to be used in the performance of official duty. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Certified Teachers CSEA Master Agreement – Article 10.6 TEACHING CONDITIONS/ASSIGNMENTS and/or the Educational Support Professional Meet and Confer Handbook – 17.4 MILEAGE ALLOWANCE.
