Research and Policy Director of Regional Advocacy
Job Description

- The Colorado League of Charter Schools is a charter support organization that has been place since 1994. Recently established, CLCS Action is a companion advocacy organization to the Colorado League of Charter Schools.
- As the Director of Regional Advocacy – Metro Denver, you will be responsible for leading and working within districts and school communities to assist charter school leaders, families, and staff in developing and executing multi-level advocacy agendas. The Director of Regional Advocacy will be responsible for creating strategies to build knowledge and skills among a network of school leaders, parents, teachers, and supporters and then mobilizing them around local and statewide charter school priorities and initiatives. This includes building and managing relationships with key community stakeholders and organizations and convening charter school leaders, setting up and managing district-level charter school collaboratives, and attending and tracking community convenings and board meetings.

- District Engagement

- Identify strategy for united action at district level. Lead strategy for League engagement in Denver and Aurora. This includes setting goals for the work and managing reports on progress against goals and data entry.
- Lead principal engagement and alignment for designated region.
- Establish, grow, and maintain formal partnerships in designated region.
- Work in conjunction with the Advocacy Team to develop short- and long-term advocacy goals, strategies and target areas for engagement and advocacy work.
- Work across external district teams to ensure advocacy campaign strategies are in line with organizational goals and communicate to team members and advocacy partners about campaign development.
- Build a network of families and staff within schools and identify family and staff champions in communities across region to be trained and mobilized.
- Develop and deliver trainings to families and staff on a variety of issues for designated region.
- Facilitate the regular convening of assigned regional charter collectives.
- Build, maintain and leverage relationships with local advocacy allies.
State-Level Engagement
- Play critical role in improving and growing the Colorado League of Charter Schools’ ACT advocacy network.
- Leverage ACT network members for action alerts at key times throughout the year.
- Support Director of Governmental Affairs in identifying and preparing charter leaders, staff and families to provide testimony on key issues at the State Capitol.
- Coordinate large public forums, rallies and actions demonstrating the power of charter school families and staff, including events such as Charter School Advocacy Day at the Capitol.
- Capitalize on unity to impact state policy opportunities.
- Lead program and content development for family and staff trainings.
- Lead development of training promotional materials.
- Represent the Colorado League of Charter Schools at coalition tables.
- Establish and maintain League relationships with other advocacy organizations and direct service providers to promote opportunities for collaboration, areas where there is misalignment and promote services to school partners to support their families and staff.
Data and Communications
- Track local school board meetings and develop the necessary communications materials to keep charter school leaders and their communities informed, engaged, and mobilized.
- Manage data tracking systems; track network growth goals, benchmarks, and overall progress, and ensure accurate and timely data entry; including metrics of training RSVPs, training participants, identified champions, actions taken, and issues noted.
- Oversee Murmuration database and district advocacy campaigns.
- Support the application completion and reporting of advocacy-related grants.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide coordination and management of partners and consultants as needed for projects and grant work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Advocacy, or a policy related field.
- Prior experience in education advocacy.
- Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish is preferred.
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Knowledge Microsoft Office, Google Suite, video online platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, and be able to work with multiple systems to ensure data is kept up to date and includes: YM, Murmuration, and others.
- Ability to independently lead, manage and accept responsibility for a variety of complex organizational functions.
- Able to proactively identify challenges and ask for support where needed.
- Strong facilitation skills with the ability to facilitate large scale meetings in person and/or remote.
- Experience working in a non-profit or startup, with minimal supervision and resources, and the ability to be highly adaptable as the organization changes.
- Strong leadership, project management, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Resilient, self-aware professional with exposure to diverse experiences and a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated integrity and high standards in managing information and data in a highly confidential and professional manner.
- Proven experience in managing large scale programs and initiatives through strategies and tactical practices.
- Proven ability to take complex concepts and technical information and make them accessible for families and staff.
- Knowledge of topics related to advocacy, organizing and public relations marketing.
