Mental Health Therapist/Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Provides clinical assessment/problem identification, crisis intervention, individual, family, and group therapy, and case management in our Marisol Counseling Program.  Also provides mental health services and related educational, technical, and consultative support to children, families, and staff for Marisol Counseling in our Early Head Start program.

  • Provides professional counseling to adults, adolescents and children and families.
  • Performs assessment, diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning and case disposition.
  • Provides ongoing therapy in a variety of locations to meet client’s needs.
  • Acts as an advocate for clients and/or client systems when appropriate.
  • Performs appropriate case management.
  • Documents client contacts and progress in accordance with accepted charting standards.
  • Provides appropriate information and referral services to clients.
  • Participates in clinical and agency supervision, consultation and staff training as required.
  • Provides education, training and/or planning in mental health human service issues as appropriate.
  • Uses creativity and innovation in program development and service delivery.
  • Provide regularly scheduled on-site mental health consultation to one Early Head Start site.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed Eligible Mental Health Professional.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood mental health principles and practices
  • Able to effectively communicate orally to diverse groups and individuals
  • Demonstrates strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Flexible and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Requires basic knowledge of computers to enter data, create communications and generate reports.
  • Demonstrate skills and sensitivity to the cultural/linguistic differences of staff, clients and community
  • Knowledgeable in Head Start Program Performance Standards
  • Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree (MA/MS) from accredited four-year college or university; and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be license eligible.  Supervision towards licensure provided. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have LPC, LCSW or equivalent or be licensed eligible.
  • Valid driver’s license proof of insurance and reliable transportation.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary: Starting at $55,000/Salary per year with increases commensurate with experience & education. 

Schedule: Dependent on location, Center is open 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. 

Training: We provide a robust training curriculum that will support our employees throughout their career.  Training provided within the first year of employment includes: De-escalation & Safety; Public Speaking; Mental Health First Aid; Substance Abuse & Mental Health; Human Trafficking; Trauma Informed Care; and many more.
