Job Description

Moffat County School District, headquartered in Craig, serves a county built on coal and sustained on culture. Four elementary schools—three of them in Craig—feed into one middle and one high school.

Moffat County School District (MCSD) serves about 2,000 students a year with roughly 500 of those students at the high school. We are looking for motivated, caring, and enthusiastic person to fill a Principal position at one of our elementary schools.

*Salary:  $90,370 – $110,302 on the K-5 Principal of Administrators Salary Schedule, dependent upon experience. *Moffat County School District is currently conducting a salary survey so compensation may increase as of July 1, 2024.

Moffat County School District is seeking an Elementary Principal for Sandrock Elementary school in Moffat County.  Sandrock Elementary is one of three elementary schools in the district, houses an average of 280 students with an average of 42 staff members in the building. 

 As the Principal and an instructional leader this person will work in a supportive position with the teachers and support staff to increase student achievement in a safe, pleasant and effective educational environment while following the Strategic Plan and guidelines set by the Moffat County School District Board of Education . Along with student achievement the principal will support professional staff development, sustain a positive school culture, and maintain positive and productive relations with parents and the community. 

 Required Qualifications:

  • Currently hold a valid Colorado Principal License or be eligible to obtain a valid Colorado Principal License prior to beginning of employment contract

 The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence and personal growth of every student.  This person will have proven success and understanding in the following areas:

  1. Productive classroom management and instructional practices.
  2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Student data analysis and utilization of that data to improve student growth and success.
  4. Development and implementation of curriculum that supports students of all levels academically and socially.  
  5. Promotion of positive student behavior programs and effective implementation of student disciplinary actions.
  6. Effective budget creation and management.
  7. Supervision and performance evaluation of certified and classified staff.
  8. Interviewing, hiring, and training of staff.
  9. Promotion and coordination of staff development and professional growth.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and students; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

Other Skills and Abilities:    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.
