Elementary School Principal Job Description
The School Principal is responsible for planning improvements that directly address the school’s accountability. These improvements include but are not limited to, student performance, instructional processes, financial management, and community support. The School Principal is also responsible for developing and implementing a plan for recruitment of new students and retaining those students who are already enrolled. The School Principal will be responsible for assisting with leadership, instructional management, staff and student supervision, daily operations, staff development, accountability, evaluation, and data analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
- Serves as an academic leader for the Elementary school community
- Develop and implement the Elementary school curriculum, instruction, and assessment in a manner consistent with PRA’s vision and mission
- Provide leadership in the formulation and annual adjustment, leadership, direction, and support of the school’s instructional and program plans
- Provide instructional leadership in advancing proven teaching and learning practices and implementing the Core Knowledge sequence
- Develop a professional development program, in conjunction with the other Principals, to meet the needs of all staff. Set standards for student achievement, observe instruction regularly, monitor student growth and achievement
- Supervise and evaluate staff, not only for the Elementary school level but also shared staff, to ensure quality instruction and student achievement
- Ensure that continuous improvement is guided by student academic standards; school performance standards; and concrete data from school, state, and local assessments
- Ensure a safe and orderly environment
Culture & Climate Leadership
- Establish a positive school culture and climate at the Elementary school focused on student engagement, with embedded support structures that are successful and sustainable over time.
- Develop and maintain a school safety and crisis plan in coordination with the other Principals, ED, School leadership team, and Mental Health Staff.
- Work with the other Principals to ensure consistent discipline policies and character education throughout the school.
- Implement a K-12 character education program
Community Leadership
- Provide leadership, direction, and support with excellent customer service to the PRA families and potential PRA families.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the school in the community and elsewhere
- Ensure compliance with policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State-mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers
- Contribute to the development of the K-12 school calendar & events
- Serve as the hiring manager of search committee(s)
- Manage student recruitment and enrollment process
K-12 Campus Development
- Communicate pertinent information regarding campus development with the internal and external community.
- Participate in the strategic planning process and K-12 visioning to plan for future needs.
- Participate in developing the school budget alongside the other Principals, Finance & Business Director, and ED to ensure the needs of the whole school are being met.
- Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the PRA Board of Directors.
- Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the Executive Director and other Principals.
- Work with the ED and other Principals and School Accountability Committee to complete and present the annual school’s progress report to staff, students, families, board, and community.
Professional Responsibilities

Education and Related Work Experience
- Master’s Degree in Education required.
- Certified or Eligible for Principal License.
- Five (5) years of appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a school setting.
- Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, problem-solving skills, and demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and to apply superb judgment.
- Prior experience with Core Knowledge is preferred.
- Prior experience in charter school preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Read, write and interpret documents such as rules, policy and expectation, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessments.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, Administrators, and parents.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to apply an entrepreneurial outlook and a charter school commitment.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate different tasks.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self-motivated.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- The employee is required to talk, walk, stand, hear, sit, crouch and reach.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Vision abilities required include close vision, distance, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Work is occasionally performed outside with exposure to extreme temperatures and loud noises.
- Work hours may occasionally be extended.

Reporting Relationship
- This position reports to the Executive Director.
- Direct Reports: The Elementary Assistant Principal, assigned certified and classified staff members.

Hiring Range: $100,000 – $112,500
