Job Title: Lake County Elementary School PK-2 Principal
Salary Range: $77,500 – $92,500; FLSA: Exempt EXCELLENT benefits including PTO, health, dental, vision and PERA!
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
Work Year: 195 Days; generally follows LCSD Calendar with additional principal days.
Start date: approx. July 29, 2024
Description: Lake County Elementary School serves the PreK-2nd grade students of Leadville and the surrounding areas within Lake County. With effective leadership skills in setting high expectations for educational programming, the principal will build a caring, collaborative community that will engage students in a dynamic, rigorous and inspiring learning environment. The principal will set the vision and mission of the school as it aligns with the district vision, mission and strategic plan and will direct the educational programming, personnel and community relations accordingly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Lake County Elementary Principal will work with the superintendent, district staff, teachers, building staff, students, families and the community to pursue excellence in the following ways:
INSTRUCTIONAL & SCHOOL LEADERSHIP
- Set the vision and mission of the school as it aligns with the district strategic plan.
- Provide exemplary leadership to all members of the school community to achieve outstanding performance through setting high standards, creating high quality learning experiences and ensuring comprehensive instructional programming.
- Use data-driven practices to inform decision making to improve plan, design, develop, implement and evaluate practices.
- Effectively supervise faculty and staff with ethical, lawful and culturally considerate practices.
- Manage financial resources in a fiscally responsible manner to maximize the impact to achievement of the school and district strategic plan.
- Monitor and maintain positive behavior management systems and practices.
- Ensure provision and compliance of supports for learning needs of students including special education, 504, counseling and other identified needs.
- Prove successful mastery and skills in the fulfillment of the Colorado Principal evaluation system, as outlined in the State model evaluation rubric for principals.
- Oversee faculty and staff of the school, including recruitment, selection, evaluation, supervision, retention, and dismissal.
- Ensure safety of students and staff.
- Maintain communication and relations with the families of the school.
- Perform other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

- Bilingual skills in Spanish preferred
Minimum educational level:
- Master’s Degree in related field
- Principal license or hold qualifications for alternative licensure pathway
Experience required:
- 5 years teaching and working in classrooms, preferably in diverse schools and/or communities
- Experience as a principal, dean or instructional leadership role highly preferred
- Experience serving at-risk students and/or Hispanic/Latino population preferred.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience in establishing a vision and mission; strategic planning; collaborative decision making; leading change and managing transitions; data driven decision making; experience establishing, supervising and leading employees and committees. Commitment to the education of students as the primary responsibility of the district. Demonstrated ability and commitment in staff and community relations, supporting and developing/promoting a positive district/school climate, shared decision-making, personnel management that support the district goals. Federal, state and local knowledge of legislation, policies and practices related to public education and educational operations. Knowledge of recruiting, hiring, and retaining personnel practices from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences Exceptional oral and written communication skills with individuals and groups. Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Computer and technology skills required.
