Job Description

Paradox Valley School (PVS), located in Paradox, Colorado, is known for offering a unique education that often incorporates art, hands-on learning, and environmental education into the curriculum. PVS is a small charter school serving grades preschool through eighth, with the capability of extending to twelfth . Due to the size of our student body, many classes are mixed grades and range in size from five to twenty students per teacher. PVS follows a Love-and-Logic model, as well as the Pyramid Model, and is working to incorporate restorative justice practices into our school atmosphere. PVS is especially adept at offering individualized attention to all of our students and families to provide them with a well-rounded and supportive educational environment.

For anyone considering relocating to the area, you can expect to see fields of desert sagebrush, cattle roaming, and jutting purple mesas. Activities that are popular in the valley include farming, ranching, rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and hunting.  Paradox Valley is also known for traces of Native American lifestyle left behind in the form of petroglyphs and arrowheads. In addition to bountiful beauty in the area, Paradox is 60 miles from Moab, UT, and 70 miles from Telluride, CO, both popular destinations. 

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for carrying out the mission, vision and objectives of the school as outlined by the PVS board, while consistently ensuring excellence in teaching and final responsibility.  They will cultivate the PVS culture that is infused with Western traditions, values and greatness of heart.  The ED position is responsible for ensuring financial stability and proper budget management, and will manage risk, maintain accountability, support a positive public image and cultivate support within the community. 

Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Serve as a member of the Board of Directors (BOD), ensuring its initiatives are effectively implemented, through developing and implementing school policies and procedures, operations, finance, human resources and academic/school performance. 
  • Ensure the school is compliant and reporting the measures required by authorizer, CDE and State.
  • Complete all tasks and projects in a timely manner as assigned by the BOD.
  • Working with the BOD and the Finance Committee, create strategic financial plans focused on long-term viability and a continued pipeline of students (ex.: waitlist, maintaining enrollment).
  • Oversee grant application and fundraising activities.


School Leadership 

  • Promote and encourage the success of every student by collaborating with staff and community members
  • Develop and implement marketing plans to attract students to PVS
  • Lead and provide opportunities to further develop the knowledge, skills, ability and talent of teachers and staff
  • Evaluate performance of all administrative and professional staff and provide effective growth plans as needed
  • Regularly track and report student academic progress. Adjust academic goals and performance benchmarks accordingly, and recognize academic excellence and growth
  • Recruit, develop and retain qualified talent to support the mission and objectives of PVS
  • Supervise administrative and professional team
  • Design and develop safety systems and procedures supporting a school setting 
  • Direct the budgeting process, grant and fundraising proposals and determine budget allocations
  • Partner with the Finance Committee to create and implement a Financial Policy and Procedure Manual and recommend updates as necessary.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and Master degree in education or related field 
  • Minimum three years experience as an executive director, principal, school administrative or related leadership/management position
  • Experience teaching K-12 or leading a successful, innovative district or public charter school 
  • Experience overseeing curriculum development 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; written and oral
  • Conflict management and resolution skills 
  • Granting writing experience 
  • An approachable, accessible, compassionate leader with the ability to bring the school and community together 
  • Inspiring leader who represents a positive presence with high aspirations for student academic success
  • Colorado Principal License
  • Early childhood certification for Pre-school director 



Salary: $58,000 – $68,000
