The Early Childhood Council of Boulder County’s mission is to expand and improve the comprehensive system of quality early childhood services for families in Boulder County. Our vision is to ensure that all young children birth to five in Boulder County are ready to succeed in school and in life. The council serves as the early childhood hub of Boulder County, leveraging resources, opportunities and connections to create a quality system that impacts the lives of young children and their families. We serve the approximate 330 licensed child care facilities, centers and family child care homes, that provide early childhood care and education services to over 9,000 young children in Boulder County. Job Summary
The Executive Director is the lead organizational position responsible for providing the overall leadership of The Early Childhood Council of Boulder County (ECCBC) and its mission and programs, ensuring consistent achievement of ECCBC’s mission, implementation of its policies, goals and objectives, and all aspects of fund development and stewardship, short and long term strategic planning, advocacy, collaborative partnerships/strategic positioning, assurance of program quality and fidelity, supervision of staff, and management of day-to-day organizational functioning and operations.
- This is a full time exempt position (minimum 40hours/week). Office hours generally follow a standard workweek (M-F, 8-5, with occasional evening, early morning, overnight, or weekend events).
- Salary and paid time off to be determined by the Board of Directors.
- Salary increases and total compensation package reviewed annually based on a performance review conducted by Board of Directors.

- Some in-state and out-of-state travel may be required. This position also requires occasional use of your personal vehicle. ECCBC employees are responsible for maintaining a valid Colorado Driver’s License and personal vehicle insurance. ECCBC reimburses employees for mileage for approved ECCBC related business travel expenses at the IRS allowable rates
- ECCBC employees must be legally allowed to be employed in the US, and must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check
- All position are at-will and grant funded. Ongoing employment is dependent upon performance as well as funding availability

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in NonProfit Management, MBA or equivalent
- A minimum of 5+ years in a senior management or leadership position in a nonprofit organization or governmental entity
- Demonstrated success overseeing multiple complex funding sources, including governmental grants
- Expertise in securing private as well as governmental grants and other private resources
- Proven effective performance in establishing and growing strategic partnerships
- Experience in governmental relations and policy/advocacy
- Experience working with Boards, including demonstrated organizational, operational, and financial acumen
- Demonstrated ability to communicate accurate and timely information to key stakeholders
- Knowledge and experience with:
- organizational budgeting, strategic planning and evaluation
- legal requirements and reporting for nonprofits to include governmental grants
- Ability to articulate the mission of ECCBC
Leadership and Management Competencies:
- Provide leadership and vision for the implementation of ECCBC’s strategic plan and mission
- Maintain high profile for ECCBC within Boulder County, statewide and national constituencies, including funders, policy-makers, government leaders, and other nonprofit organizations
- Be an effective, visible advocate for the movement to educate the community about the critical importance of the first five years of life
- Initiate and encourage collaboration with foundations, other funders and organizations within the field of early childhood
- Serve as ECCBC’s primary spokesperson and advocate, clearly articulating the mission and vision to increase impact and visibility and enhance ECCBC’s reputation and standing. This includes representing ECCBC at local, state and national events through speaking; serving on boards and commissions; and communicating frequently and consistently information of relevance to community leaders, funders, and other stakeholders
- Keep abreast of current research and trends in the field of early childhood including early learning, parent education, and the health/social emotional domain
Community Awareness
- Serve as an effective spokesperson for ECCBC
- Sought after as a technical expert in the field of ECE, Collective Impact, systems design
- Establish respectful and trusting working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups, stakeholders and policy makers
- Broad understanding of local and national early childhood systems development
Operations
- Ensure that the day-to-day operations and programs of ECCBC are professionally and efficiently administered, overseeing the work of staff, instituting best practices and developing and implementing systems and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness
- Develop, motivate, manage and lead a high performance staff capable of effectively implementing ECCBC’s programs and operations
- Develop and oversee the annual organizational budget which includes an accurate, realistic forecasting of revenues and expenses
- Manage the organizations’ resources, operating with a balanced budget and employing sound fiscal planning, controls and management; ensuring that audits are smoothly executive, and authorizing major expenses, and maintaining an efficient set of financial core processes, systems, and infrastructure
- Oversee and assure regulatory soundness and strength of the organization, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal/state and local laws and regulations
- Oversee the compiling, analyzing, and reporting of annual activities, outcomes, and impact of ECCBC’s overall efforts
- Keep abreast of current issues and policies that impact nonprofit organizations, including legal, financial, fund development, advocacy and accountability trends
Board
- Maintain a strong partnership with the Board of Directors, working to build consensus and commitment to the vision and mission of ECCBC, and develop a unified voice for the organization
- Participate in the development and support of a high-performing Board of Directors charged with providing guidance, supporting fundraising goals, and increasing networks for ECCBC efforts locally and statewide
- In collaboration with the Board of Directors, lead the organization’s ongoing planning efforts, assuring that planning cycles recur as appropriate and that benchmarks are being met
- Explore, evaluate, and make recommendations to the Board for setting/revising policies or goals, and seizing opportunities that promote ECCBC’s mission
- Provide timely, accurate, and transparent reports to the Board, understanding role differentiation between the Board and ED/staff
- Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors
Fund Development
- Lead and execute all aspects of ECCBC’s resource development efforts, focusing on short- and long- term strategy, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to secure the financial resources to implement ECCBC’s strategic plan
- Research, develop, and maintain a portfolio of prospects for foundation and government grant applications; draft applications; and oversee all aspects of grants management and reporting
Program
- Evaluate potential programmatic endeavors and provide strategic recommendations to the Board for future program goals and direction
- Analyze and evaluate current programmatic efforts to ensure that all programs are of high quality and fidelity and support the fulfillment of ECCBC’s mission
- Monitor trends and issues that impact ECCBC
- Serve in a leadership role with local, state and national models within early childhood
