Located in Durango, Colorado, AHS serves approximately 200 students in grades 9-12. Job Description
The Head of School is Animas High School’s chief executive/administrator and reports to the school’s Board of Directors.
Core Responsibilities:
- Execute the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of Animas High School
- Drive efforts to support meaningful academic and personal growth for students through project-based learning model and develop metrics to measure student progress
- Sustain and enhance AHS’ Culture of Excellence to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all students
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with AHS students and families
- Oversee staff hiring process, manage professional development for all school staff, develop metrics to assess staff success, evaluate efficacy of staff roles and make decisions around employment offers/termination
- Lead and manage all school operations
- Manage the annual budgeting process and ongoing fiscal management
- Oversee all government compliance including testing, charter-school reporting requirements and adherence to the Unified Improvement Plan
- Oversee the relocation into the new facility and develop collaborative programs with Fort Lewis College
- Maintain and grow positive partnerships with other local schools and community agencies, exhibiting leadership in the Durango and regional community
Qualifications:
- MA in Education Administration or equivalent education and experience
- Experience/strong familiarity with project-based learning
- 3+ years of high school level teaching experience
- 3+ years of high school level administrative experience
- Proven ability to lead successfully in academic environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a proven ability to work professionally and collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of school-based budgeting/planning
- Knowledge of the laws, procedures, and programs related to the operation of a school
- Experience with IDEA, ADA, and Gifted & Talented requirements and programs
- Proven skills in problem solving and conflict management
- Charter school experience preferred
Salary negotiable based on experience
