Position Overview
The Impact Manager is responsible for driving the successful implementation of the WSWC service model by building and cultivating strong school partnerships and developing a team of committed, idealistic leaders and school practitioners. The Impact Manager plays a crucial role in leading a team of ACMs through a ten-month-long journey of learning, reflection, and service in schools that builds student capacity and academic skills as well as the ACMs’ civic capacity and civic identity.
Job Description
Uplift and Improve the School Community: Build and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders to enhance service performance and make an impact across the community.
- Oversee the implementation of school-wide culture development, including the design and creation of City Year attendance, engagement (behavior), and academic support systems, routines, interventions, and events in partnership with school administration
- Design and oversee after-school program that includes daily homework help and engaging activities and opportunities for kids
- Build a strong partnership with school officials including principals and other key decision makers by understanding the school’s priorities and working collaboratively to craft and implement solutions that leverage AmeriCorps Members’ talent and align with City Year Whole School Whole Child output, outcome, and impact goal
- Maintain a strong presence in school and continually cultivate key relationship
- Use student data strategically to gain support for initiatives or intervention
- Coach ACMs on developing productive partnerships with teachers and other staff
- Access and leverage district and community resources and partners in support of the program
- Meet regularly with school officials including principals, instructional leaders, and teachers
Develop AmeriCorps Members as Strong Leaders and Mentors: Guide AmeriCorps Members (ACMs) to meet their service performance requirements while developing their sense of service, identity, and leadership.
- Ensure ACMs are committed to student success and equipped to meet City Year standards as mentors and leaders in schools
- Create and inspire a team of idealistic young people to work efficiently and effectively to meet group goals using City Year leadership tools, team building exercises, rituals, and best practices
- Use Performance Management tools to set performance expectations, identify strengths and development opportunities, and partner with each ACM on a development plan to maximize leadership potential
- Help AmeriCorps Members understand the unique context they are working in, including self-reflection and programming around race, identity, and diversity
- Support the management of ACM Human Resources to meet graduation requirements
- Effectively manage and communicate information from various stakeholders (the school, City Year, the Community) to ACMs so they understand and are empowered but not overloaded
- Manage, lead, and develop Service Leaders (second year ACMs) and teams of young people
- Assist in the process of recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of future ACMs
Ensure Students Have Access to the Appropriate Academic and Social-Emotional Supports to Reach Their Goals: Oversee the execution of City Year’s Whole School Whole Child Tier I supports and Tier 2 interventions.
- Oversee the implementation of whole school and class service, using City Year intervention structures and strategies in and out of the classroom in partnership with school administration
- Collect, understand, and use student academic data, teacher and ACM survey data, student, school, and district level data, and classroom observations to explain trends and identify opportunities to improve interventions, whole school and class service, and ACM performance
- Create clear and measurable objectives for accomplishing Whole School Whole Child goals
- Capture best practices and share with the larger City Year community

- Relationship Development: Demonstrated ability to develop and manage complex relationships. Proven ability to have tough conversations and to hold staff accountable towards their performance goals. Manage relationships with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to help achieve service goals and AmeriCorps member development.
- Talent Development: Proven success in managing diverse teams towards a common goal. History of coaching/leading young people between the ages of 17-24. Deeply understands or has worked in a school environment and is adept in strategies that build academic and social-emotional skills with school-aged children.
- Executes to Results: Exhibits a strong record of achieving transformational results with students from low-income communities, at the classroom or school level. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, problem-solve, troubleshoot, and show creative problem-solving when faced with perceived barriers.
- Communication: Ability to translate mission and vision from the organizational level to AmeriCorps members and talk about complex topics and parse them for specific audiences. Able to communicate effectively, efficiently, and with transparency to the right people at the right time to ensure the success of our AmeriCorps members in service.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience working in teams or leading teams to achieve common goals
- Experience working with young people and school-aged children
- Commitment to self-improvement, identity development, and working across lines of difference
- City Year/AmeriCorps experience is a plus.
Compensation: Full-time employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with experience. The salary for this position is in the mid-40,000s.
