Long-Term Substitute Teacher SPANISH Job Description
All Prospect Ridge Academy (PRA) employees work together to create academic, social, and ethical leaders. The Long-Term SPANISH Substitute (LTS) Teacher is responsible for each pupil’s education in their charge for the duration of the assignment.  The Long-Term Substitute is accountable for implementing the pre-planned instruction to various ability levels.  The LTS must maintain classroom discipline and routines to the best of their abilities while working with students, parents, other teachers, and staff toward achieving the goals outlined in the Prospect Ridge Academy Mission Statements.  Due to the nature of this position, we would prefer licensed special education candidates, but we will consider all licensed educators.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Develops a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity with parents and students
    • Assesses student performance frequently and objectively
    • Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents
    • Promote accountability for students
  • Be responsible for conducting an organized and professional classroom
  • Show empathy and understanding of students
  • Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.  Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language and behavior while on assignment.
  • Remain on duty for the entire assignment, including the planning and duty time of the regular class teacher.
  • Execute effective classroom management through clear expectations and positive relationships.
  • Instructional and technological competency
  • Knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways
  • Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State-mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers
  • Support and understand the use of devices in a BYOD community

Other Duties 

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulation
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Teaching or Substitute certification is required
  • Spanish certification is strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Ability to assess grade level needs and plan and organize accordingly
  • Strong self-starter; able to work with limited direction
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, problem-solving skills, and demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Resourceful in generating creative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to apply superb judgment

 

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, policy and expectation documents, staff agreements, evaluation rubrics, individual mathematics plans, math assessments, and district math report documents. Ability to effectively document classroom observations, analyze data to improve instructional practices, and correspond with staff from all levels—ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, Board of Directors, Administrators, and parents.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

This position must attend to the needs of staff, Administrators, the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, and parents. Prospect Ridge Academy is a dynamic school that is subject to changing work environments, adaptation of new educational principles and values, and shifting culture. Adaptability to change is essential.

  8. EAP – Employee Assistance Program is provided by Lincoln Financial.
  9. PAL – Paid Annual Leave beginning immediately following the first day of work (FTE 1.0 = 10 days / 0.8 = 8 days/ 0.5 = 5 days etc.)
  10. Paid Holidays that include – 11 paid Holidays for 10 month Employees (please refer to Employee Handbook for these 11 days) and 15 paid Holidays for 12 month Employees (please refer to Employee Handbook for these 15 days.

For Employees working < 0.75 FTE, benefits will include:

  1. PERA – Administered by Colorado, PERA is a tax-deferred retirement account to which you contribute 11% of your monthly earnings. Additionally, PRA contributes 21.4% to the PERA pension trust fund on your behalf.

Salary: $190 per day
