Teacher Physical Education/Outdoor Education
Job Description
North Routt Community Charter School (NRCCS) is looking for a highly qualified, highly motivated candidate to teach physical education to grades K-8 and lead Outdoor Education trips. Teacher candidates will instruct school-age students on healthy living, exercise and physical fitness including an element of social-emotional wellness in all lessons; lead students in outdoor adventure and investigations of the natural world; teacher with an emphasis on cooperation rather than competition; organize and supervise students during class activities; instruct students on proper exercise routines and technique and use norms to ensure emotional safety and to promote courage and risk-taking in intellectual and physical adventure.
Primary Responsibilities: The following are examples of primary duties assigned to the PE/ Outdoor Education teacher. Other related primary duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Plan classroom activities for grades K-8 to motivate students
- Coach students individually or as a group
- Communicate with parents and other teachers about a student’s progress
- Lead an outdoor adventure program with support from staff that incorporates team-building, courage, and risk-taking activities in the natural world
Qualifications:
- Sense of humor and a high level of energy, enthusiasm, flexibility, and spontaneity
- Teaching experience that is consistent with NRCCS’ educational philosophy
- Understanding of how to pinpoint each student’s strengths and weaknesses and then apply differential instructional practices to meet the diverse learning needs of each student
- Ability to manage student behavior in a caring, compassionate, effective manner
- Collaborative approach to working with children and adults
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in related fields.
- Current Colorado Elementary Teaching license (or ability to obtain one).
