D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School is seeking a principal with a passion for the liberal arts and the classics, a strong academic background, and experience with high-achieving schools and students. D’Evelyn’s well-defined educational and management philosophies have led the school to be the top-ranked public high school in Colorado in US News and World Report for the past two years. D’Evelyn students achieved the highest scores in Colorado on the ACT, SAT, and PSAT for the past 20 consecutive years, as well as a 0% college remediation rate. D’Evelyn requires an exceptional leader to continue the tradition of excellence of this accomplished 6-12 program.
D’Evelyn is a public school of choice educating approximately 1200 students. It was founded by parents in 1994 as a liberal arts school and an accredited college preparatory school for grades 7-12. Sixth grade was successfully added in 2020. The school maintains rigorous academic graduation requirements, daily class meetings for all courses, and teacher-led, textbook-based instruction. A content-rich, demanding curriculum with sequential continuity requires every student to master a core sequence of English, history, science, mathematics, and foreign language, taught at or above grade level. D’Evelyn students achieve excellence in many interscholastic sports, extracurricular opportunities, and the arts. D’Evelyn provides a closed campus and upholds a behavioral code, endorsed in writing by every parent and student.
The principal is a member of, works closely with, and is accountable to the Steering Committee, which governs the school. The committee is composed of the principal, five parents, and two teachers, who are elected by the D’Evelyn community. The Steering Committee interprets and protects the school philosophy as defined by the Founding Document. D’Evelyn needs a strong educational leader able to implement its unique educational philosophy and inspire staff and students to realize excellence in academics, character, and extracurricular endeavors. The principal must advocate for the D’Evelyn liberal arts program to parents, students, staff, and the wider community, and must hold self and others accountable for results.
Additionally, applicants must be highly skilled in collaborative and strategic decision making, relationship building, conflict management, problem-solving, resource allocation, prioritization, data analysis, digital literacy, and group facilitation, as well as writing and public speaking. Applicants must be able to understand and apply written policies, contractual provisions, and Colorado school laws. Applicants must also demonstrate the ability to connect with and build community among staff, junior and senior high school students, and their parents.
Start date: July 6, 2022
Work year: 225 days
Salary range: $112,506 – $132,924

- Candidates must have at least two (2) years, preferably three (3) or more years, of successful school leadership experience as a principal or an assistant principal.
- Experience in a liberal arts (or similar) educational environment is a plus.

- Three letters of reference including contact information. One should be from an immediate supervisor. No calls will be made to current supervisors without the applicant’s knowledge and only after the initial screening process has been successfully completed.
- One-page statement of the applicant’s educational philosophy (separate from the cover letter), incorporating reflection on and experience with education that is grounded in the liberal arts using teacher-directed and textbook-based whole-group instruction.
- Transcripts covering the applicant’s entire post-secondary education
