Special Education Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY:
The special education teacher will provide classroom instruction to students with a wide range of learning, mental, and emotional disabilities. The special education teacher will skilled in adapting and/or modifying lessons and teaching various subjects to students on the mild to severe range of needs as identified on the Individual Education Plan (IEP). The special education teacher is responsible for planning, developing, delivering and evaluating appropriate individualized educational services, learning programs and instruction for all students. The special education teacher will also supports the buildings efforts in multi-tiered systems of supports. The special education teacher will develop and promote positive community relations among stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Identify student needs through formal and informal assessment
•Review referral data, history and assessment data to develop
•Possess and demonstrates a wide variety of instructional strategies and methods to serve students with disabilities
•Prepare and deliver instruction to meet the student needs
•Participate and support the school’s efforts in multi-tiered systems of support
•Review IEPs with parents, students and agency staff, as appropriate
•Utilize appropriate methods of learning delivery and instruction to meet the needs of students with disabilities
•Monitor, evaluate and document each student’s progress utilizing appropriate measurements
•Manage student behavior through monitoring, supervising and assessing behavioral patterns
•Develop and implement Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) where necessary
•Maintain accurate and complete records in compliance with school regulations and legal requirements
•Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices and effective teaching practices
•Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor’s degree in special education
•Master’s degree in special education or related field preferred
•Experience in working with at-risk populations preferred
•Must be knowledgeable about researched-based, effective teaching practices, and state content standards
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
•Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
•Valid Colorado Teaching License with Special Education Generalist or equivalent endorsement.
•Cultural and Linguistically Diverse educator endorsement (Linguistically Diverse Educator) preferred.
•All positions require criminal CBI background check, FBI fingerprint check, State of CO child abuse check, DMV driving record check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, academic credential verification, and reference check.
