The Park County School District RE-2, Fairplay, Colorado, Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2024.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in association with the Colorado Association of School Boards and the Colorado Association of School Executives, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.
Enrollment: 577 students
Location: 90 miles Southwest of Denver
The Qualifications
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership with a master’s in education or related field (preferred). The board recognizes the importance of selecting a superintendent with both classroom and administrative leadership experience. Applicants for the position should possess a comprehensive understanding and practical experience in building and managing school budgets. The board of education seeks the following qualities in their superintendent:
Leader – An honest, ethical, trustworthy, transparent and compassionate person with empathy. A person who loves to work with students and their families. A leader who empowers staff and holds them accountable. A manager who delegates the work and can negotiate and collaborate. A leader willing to step into their administrative role and work alongside students and staff.
Educator – Someone who understands the impact of rural poverty on the classroom. A leader who understands trauma informed education. An educator who supports co-curricular programs. An academically driven leader who treasures learning. A leader who is a critical thinker rooted in research focused on attendance, behavior, staff retention and parenting. A person who is an innovator and thinks outside-of-the-box.
Communicator – A person who reads, writes and speaks with clarity. A charismatic person with interpersonal skills and enjoys people. A communicator who is transparent and trustworthy. A leader who listens to all people impacted by a decision. An administrator who collaborates and is engaged with the school board. A leader experienced in the field of technology and social media. A person with a sense of humor, is engaging and motivating.
Environment – Someone who can adapt to challenging environmental conditions within a rural mountain community. A person who understands the vast distance between the communities within the district.
Visible – An individual who will become involved with the community and be known by the students, classroom teachers, parents and the greater community. A person who creates happiness and joy by their presence in the classroom, school and the Park County community. A leader willing to partner with the greater community. A person who is always accessible to all people. The superintendent must live in the district.
Accountable – An educational leader with financial acumen. A person who has experience leading efficient and effective systems.
Compensation – $125,000 – $140,000 plus full benefits for the employee.
