Job Description

Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of US Economics/History teacher, with an emphasis on the teaching of US History and Economics. This is a full-time, ongoing appointment. The position begins in mid-August 2022.

We seek candidates with strong academic training and expertise in the study of History and Economics and who possess a demonstrated ability to teach and develop a robust and innovative curriculum. Explicit graduate training in a field of history is preferred.

Candidates should also have experience guiding students through content, research, and analysis which emphasizes critical thinking; and be able to teach and conduct discussions in a student-centered way. As importantly, we seek a candidate who has a demonstrated passion for history and a track record leveraging this passion into effective practices which encourage students to think creatively, engage with ideas deeply, and lead with intellectual curiosity.

Candidates should be eager to join a professional community where collaboration is valued, where rich curricular conversations are common, and where openness to growth is the norm.  Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated intercultural competence: the ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities, and lived experiences is a must.

Candidates are expected to carry out the mission of Colorado Academy, “Creating Curious, Kind, Courageous, and Adventurous Learners and Leaders,” to support the vision of the Upper School and to contribute to the life of the school outside of the classroom. The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals. Additionally, candidates will be expected to share in the day-to-day life of the school community, which includes organizing and running a one-week Upper School Interim.

The pay range for the position is $50,000 – $75,000. Although $50,000 – $75,000 is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any wage differential that may exist for the position does not relate to sex, gender or gender identity, but relates solely to a seniority system, a merit system, or relevant education, training and/or experience.

Applicants are invited to visit the Colorado Academy website (www.coloradoacademy.org) to learn more about the program and the school.
