From EL Education, Core Beliefs about English Language Learners:

In the past, the ELL has often been considered to be the ELL teacher’s responsibility. Such an attitude is

unsustainable, given the expanding numbers of ELLs in American schools and dramatic shifts in K-12 academic expectations across the country.

When … curriculum is delivered with scaffolds that are standards-based, research-aligned, culturally and academically respectful, grounded in the strengths and needs of the individual student, and surrounded by supportive school culture, we believe we have laid the groundwork for ELL academic success. ELLs need and deserve access to all aspects of the American educational experience, from the curriculum to the physical mainstream classroom. All teachers are teachers of English Language Learners.

Lake County School District’s PK-6 schools enroll approximately 40% English language learners. The role of our 3-6 English language development teacher will include ELD instruction and building capacity amongst staff to support students with English acquisition at school.
