SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
The Director of Individualized Education is responsible for providing leadership, vision, and direction for the district’s special education, multilingual learner, and gifted education programs. This role ensures that all students receive equitable access to high-quality education tailored to their unique needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Leadership and Vision:
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for SPED, multilingual learners, and gifted education programs.
- Set and communicate a clear vision for meeting the needs of all students, including those with disabilities, multilingual learners, and gifted students.
- Communicate and support implementation of MTSS across the district.
Program Management:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services for SPED, multilingual learners, and gifted education.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
- Coordinate and supervise the administration of assessments and evaluations for student placement and progress monitoring.
Collaboration and Support:
- Partner with school administrators, teachers, support staff, families, and community organizations to support student success.
- Provide coaching, professional development, and resources to educators and staff.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders to address student needs and program goals.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect, analyze, and report data on student performance and program effectiveness.
- Use data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Prepare and present reports to the school board, district leadership, and other stakeholders.
Resource Management:
- Manage budgets and allocate resources to support program goals and priorities.
- Seek and secure funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to enhance program offerings.
- Supervise and evaluate key staff across departments
Advocacy and Policy Development:
- Advocate for the needs of SPED, multilingual learners, and gifted students at the district, state, and national levels.
- Develop and update policies and procedures to ensure equitable access to education for all students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Knowledge of IDEA, ECEA, and OCR policies that guide the work of these departments.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Ability to lead a robust improvement process in

- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage programs, budgets, and staff effectively.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in education.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
- Valid Special Education Director license or actively enrolled in a program to obtain license.
- Extensive experience in special education, multilingual education, and/or gifted education preferred
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to the Chief of Student Experience and Success
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time position with extended hours as needed.
- Requires flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with dynamic priorities
- Work primarily in an office setting with regular visits to schools and community sites.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards.

Per approval by the Board of Education: All Executive Professional employees shall be allocated $1500 annually towards a Professional Development Fund (PDF). Mileage:
Per annual approval by the Board of Education: Employees shall be reimbursed at the rate established by the Board when a privately owned automobile is required to be used in the performance of official duty. Rules and restrictions of use provided in the Certified Teachers CSEA Master Agreement – Article 10.6 TEACHING CONDITIONS/ASSIGNMENTS and/or the Educational Support Professional Meet and Confer Handbook – 17.4 MILEAGE ALLOWANCE.
