Job Description

Seeking classroom teachers grades K-6 beginning August 2022 at Liberty Common School, a Poudre School District charter school dedicated to Core Knowledge principles. The current elementary school educates approximately 610 students grades K-6.  We are going to replicate our school on the west side of Fort Collins and will enroll 250 K-4 students expanding each year to grades K-6.  The positions we are hiring for could be located at either campus.

Liberty Common School offers a unique educational program with an expanded science curriculum. The school provides excellence and fairness in education by teaching 1) a contextual body of organized knowledge, 2) the skills of learning, and 3) the values of a democratic society. This is done through parental choice, partnership with teachers, and student acceptance of responsibility for his/her academic effort.

The classroom teacher has the primary responsibility for planning and delivering the entire grade level educational program in the classroom, and being an active faculty member dedicated to student achievement.  Each Grade level teacher will work closely with the other grade level teachers and teaching assistant.  Applicants should be dedicated to a strong skills and knowledge-based curriculum.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Salary Exempt
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, Full-time
WORK HOURS: 35-40 hours per week
PAY RANGE: $44,000

Minimum Essential Duties:

  • Research and gather resources and materials needed for lesson units
  • Set up classroom materials and equipment
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
  • Conduct testing and evaluate student work as directed by teachers
  • Conduct student interventions
  • Monitor, assess, and report on students’ progress
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with teachers, other faculty, students, and parents
  • Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Maintaining inventories of materials, equipment, or products
  • Adapt communication and teaching styles when necessary to support individual students and their families

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to maneuver uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to carry or transfer up to 20lbs of supplies frequently
  • Must be able to work in occasionally loud environments
  • Must be able to frequently use office technology including computers, copiers, and printers
  • Must be able to use commercial office tools including paper cutters and staplers

Minimum Requirements:

  • Desire and willingness to learn about Liberty’s history and philosophy and to uphold and promote the mission and values of the school.
  • Demonstrated competence in a relevant discipline.
  • BA/BS, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Ability and willingness to teach the Core Knowledge Sequence
  • Demonstrated effective classroom teaching ability
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, internet utilization, and general aptitude for learning new software applications
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with peers & other staff as a team to improve students’ education.

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Experience with the Core Knowledge Curriculum and demonstrated ability to support effective instructional delivery in this curriculum.
