Job Description

The Aspen Community School seeks a Middle School Teacher, specializing in math, for the 2022-2023 school year. This position will work primarily with fifth and sixth grade students in a co-teaching model.

Position Title: Middle School Teacher, specializing in math

Reports to: Casey White, ACS Principal

Classification: Certified Full-time Exempt 

Contract Period: 9 Month (186 days) 

Salary Range: $48,000-$60,000/year

 Responsibilities:

  • Establish a safe, respectful learning environment for all students, integrating ACS expectations for academic excellence, relevance, and focus on relationships
  • Develop positive relationships based on mutual respect and objectivity with parents and students
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management by setting and reinforcing clear classroom expectations
  • Be responsible for conducting a prepared, organized and professional classroom
  • Plan, prepare and deliver math lessons that reflect the curriculum and the state’s core educational standards
  • Adapt mathematics curriculum for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students
  • Evaluate the academic and social growth of students
  • Use formal and informal assessments to inform instruction based on student progress and the ability to meet courses standards in mathematical knowledge and skills
  • Plan and develop lesson plans and teaching outlines
  • Employ a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing pupils, including demonstrations, discussions, and lectures
  • Utilize educational equipment, such as materials, books, and other learning aids
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents and colleagues
  • Facilitate student-centered, solution based discussions to resolve conflicts with students and/or parents when they arise
  • Promote student responsibility through caring accountability 
  • Demonstrate Instructional and technological competency
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to approved communication pathways 
  • Actively pursue professional development opportunities that support lifelong learning
  • Participate in required activities such as but not limited to: Back to School Night, Family BBQ, the Thanksgiving Celebration, and Outdoor Education trips that enhance our program outside of instructional hours
  • Follow policies established by the COMPASS Board of Directors, administration, the respective school district, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where COMPASS has received waivers
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Support and uphold all school policies

Requirements

Willingness to become highly qualified in the content areas you are responsible for instruction. 

B.A. or B.S. required in the specific content area (e.g. B.A. in History when applying for Social Studies position). Current Colorado Teaching License preferred. Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery. 

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to talk, walk, stand and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, grasp, and perform light lifting. Ability to read, write and interpret various documents such as rules, policy and expectation, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessment documents. Ability to speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, Administrators and parents. Ability to understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations. Ability to work collaboratively with various groups. Ability to apply an entrepreneurial outlook and a charter school commitment. Strong organizational and the ability to coordinate different tasks. Strong interpersonal, and customer service skills while working with a diverse population. Ability to work with limited supervision and to be self-motivated. Ability and skill to use sound judgment as determined by the specific situation. Strong organizational and coordination skills

Working Conditions

Work is performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in all weather conditions and includes exposure to moderate and sometimes loud noise. This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, staff, Administrators, COMPASS Board of Directors and parents. Occasionally work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work as needed.
