Job Description

SPECTRA Centers Inc. in Broomfield a CDE licensed facility school that provides education and behavioral services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities. We are currently seeking highly motivated, creative, and passionate Special Education Teachers to join our team!

As a Special Education Teacher, you would manage a small classroom of students (8-12), working towards goals outlined in the IEP. Our student to staff ratio (1:1, 2:1, 3:1) provides the necessary staffing supports to effectively address behavioral and academic needs. Teachers are assigned a lead staff person, responsible for assisting and supporting the classroom. Finally, our Teachers work collaboratively with SPECTRA’s interdisciplinary team (SP, OT, LCSW, and BCBAs) to develop and implement supports that help students thrive.

Hours:

Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Compensation:

Signing Bonus – $2,000 (minimum of 1-year stay to maintain)

Salary – $58,000 – $75,600 – Salary based on years experience teaching Special Education and education level.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must pass state and federal background checks as required by the State of Colorado in order to be in contact with children.
  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
  • Must hold a valid and current license from Colorado Department of Education with a Special Education Generalist endorsement or desire/ability to obtain Sped Certification.
  • Understanding and experience working with students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities

Requirements:

Job Duties: Academic Services, Classroom Management

  • Provide an optimal classroom environment and learning experience.
  • Establishes and maintains strong classroom management.
  • Completes and/or participates in academic and diagnostic assessments.
  • Participate with family and/or guardian and team in the development of IEP.
  • Facilitate and monitor activities in accordance with each student’s IEP goals.
  • Follow classroom schedule.
  • Meet the individual academic and therapeutic needs of each student.
  • Provide information for school staffing meetings when child transitions to a new school.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork before the end of work day.
  • Complete monthly education summaries and quarterly academic report cards.
  • Develop lesson plans in accordance with standardized curriculum that allow for self-paced and individualized learning, and support emotional/behavioral disabilities.
  • Knowledge of behavior/emotional support plans, crisis intervention techniques, and proactive/preventative techniques.
  • Be familiar with the Exceptional Children’s Educational Act Rules and Regulations.
  • School records shall be maintained and transmitted according to State law, pursuant to Section24-72-204, C.R.S., and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Be knowledgeable of LEA “child find” requirements to assess any suspected disabling conditions.
  • Maintains professional boundaries with students and acts as a positive role model.
  • Communicates with students in a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to identify concerning behaviors, anticipate potential problems, and provide for the child’s individual needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Supervise the paraprofessional so that he/she maintains routine, consistency, structure and democratic environment on an ongoing basis.
  • Regularly assess student mastery of key skills and concepts and uses this data to differentiate instruction to meet student needs.
  • Maintain teaching license by accumulating CEUs and/or credits and submitting application for renewal to CDE before current license expires.
  • Facilitate Extended School Year services during the summer
